So you wanna be a rock n' roll star?

Our Battle of the Bands Book Discussion is drawing closer! This Thursday (July 9th) at 5 to 7, you can come and fight for your favorite book -- either Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist or Audrey, Wait! (You need to read at least one for admittance to the program.)

Duke it out over which book is the best, and then enjoy some pizza and make some music of your own using our gaming equipment. We'll also be giving out copies of Forest Park Library's OWN infinite playlist -- a CD full of songs that all of you voted for.

We hope to see you there!

Success @ First Annual FPPL Com-Con!

The day started off like any other...but then, the com-con folk started to come out in full cosplay garb.

Artist D.G. Gibbons showed up to give demos and advice about creating your own serial art.

Excellent snacks (complete with ramen and chocolate icing -- not together, of course), and general merrymaking.

But like all good things, it, too, had to come to an end.
Don't worry -- there's always next year!

Graphic Artist Jared Day put on a great workshop for how to create your own manga -- step by step, we broke it down and learned what elements make up a good story. Thanks, Jared!

Inside your head

Last meeting of Writers' Space was pretty cool -- we made collages that look like the inside of our heads (not in a gross way). But as in what kind of thoughts we have. In a very poetic way, of course.

Here's what we came up with:

Scrappin'

This Thursday at 5 p.m., you can help us make history by coming to our first YA Scrapbooking Session. Help us create a scrapbook of events that have taken place at Forest Park, and of the things that happened in the wider world. For example, Summer Reading Sign Up. Or the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States. Or, dare we say it, the movie version of Twilight?!? Remember: that's Thursday, June 11th, at 5 p.m. Come for the pizza, stay for the fun.

And we're off!

FPPL's Summer Reading Program has officially kicked off! Lots of people already signed up at our kick off party on Saturday, but it's not too late to join up if you missed that. For teens, 200 pages equals 1 raffle ticket -- come on and get yourself registered. You can earn raffle tickets in other ways -- by writing reviews, attending events and finding the ever elusive orange book. Come on in and get started -- when you register, you'll create a page to add to our SRP station. You don't want to be left out of that now...
