Thrills and chills

We hope you’ll come to the library on Thursday, October 30th, at 4:30 for our Urban Legends Scary Story Contest. In order to fully creep everybody out for Halloween, we’ll be sharing ghost stories, plain old-fashioned scary tales, and urban legends. We want everybody prepared for the next day, after all…

We’ll have snacks and a thoroughly spooky atmosphere to set the mood. We’ll have people get into teams and work together to tell a scary story of their choosing. The scariest story earns prizes, so start thinking of what you might like to tell. (We’ll have books available for you and your team to browse, just in case you’re stuck.)

Come on by, if you dare…

Twilight-tastic

Our Twilight Saga party rocked! Thank you so much to everybody who attended, and special thanks to our volunteers, who helped everything go off without a hitch.

The party started with a viewing of the movie trailer for Twilight (looks pretty intriguing, we have to say), and from there, we dove right into our Twilight inspired crafts -- a cool duct-tape rose, a bracelet inspired by one on Stephenie Meyer's website, and Voluminous Vampire Body Glitter. We had a great time on the trivia game (kudos to the winner for getting an incredible 16 out of 16 questions right!), and especially enjoyed snacking on the food throughout -- Bella's Blushing Punch was excellent, as were the Blood Red Cupcakes.

If you're interested in more cool events for teens, please keep checking this blog, or our myspace page (myspace.com/fpplys), or the library's events calendar. Let us know what you're interested in, what works, or what doesn't.

To see pictures from the Twilight Party, visit our MySpace page (myspace.com/fpplys). BTW, if you're old enough, and have a MySpace page, we'd love for you to friend us.

Local Author Stephanie Kuehnurt was at the Forest Park Public Library on Tuesday night. She read from her edgy new book, I Wanna Be Your Joey Romone, and spent quite a bit of time answering audience questions and talking with teens about writing. When asked about other YA books she enjoys, Stephanie mentioned the following titles:

Beige by Cecil Castellucci

The Plain Janes by Cecil Castellucci

Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block

Check out her blog at http://stephaniekuehnert.blogspot.com/.

Thank you Stephanie, we had a great time!

October happenings

September’s over, and we enjoyed a really cool month of programs. We had a great videogame tournament, a creepy showing of Prom Night, and an excellent (kinda loud and crazy) meeting of the Anime Club. Thanks to everybody involved, and make sure you come around in October for a new and exciting month of events designed for teens.

On October 9th, we’ll be having another Manga discussion group and swap meet. Come and talk to other Manga fans – all you need to participate is some old Manga.

On October 14th at 7:00, Forest Park’s own Stephanie Kuehnert will be giving a reading from her novel, I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone. Come out and support a local author!

Since we’re inching closer and closer to Halloween, the programming will start to take a turn for the occult. On the 16th at 4:30, we’ll be hosting a Twilight Saga Party. Come play trivia games and win door prizes. We’re particularly pleased to present a menu of Blood Cupcakes and Bella’s Blushing Punch. Come make some Twilight inspired crafts and talk about the books and characters with other fans.

The creep factor picks up on October 30th (at 4:30, of course) with our Urban Legend Scary Contest – who can tell the scariest story? Join us for a night of urban myths, legends, and candy.

Keep your eyes on the YS section of the Library’s website for more detailed information, and remember to sign up for programs online at www.fppl.org, or by calling the Youth Services Desk at (708)366-7171 at extension 116. Hope to see you there!
